New Parent Resource: Supporting Learning at Home

At Blue Delta School, we believe that learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. That’s why we’re excited to share our “Supporting Learning at Home” guide with all families!

This easy-to-use resource offers practical tips to help you create positive learning habits at home for children of all ages—from babies just learning to talk to confident, independent readers.

We know that every family is different. Whether you have a big study space or just a corner of the table, there’s something in this guide for you.

🌟 What’s Inside?
✅ Age-appropriate strategies—from toddlers to elementary students
✅ Simple checklists of helpful, everyday supplies
✅ Tips for building healthy homework habits
✅ Guidance on encouraging independence, confidence, and responsibility
✅ Ideas for families with limited space or materials
✅ The power of reading together—just 20 minutes a day!

📌 Highlights from the Guide
For Early Learners (0–2 years): Talk often, sing rhymes, name objects, encourage scribbles, celebrate early words and gestures.

  • Emergent Readers (Nursery–Reception): Break tasks into steps, read aloud together, praise effort, let them try first.
  • Early Independent Readers (Reception–Year 1): Sit beside them, listen as they read, help only when asked, build time management.
  • Elementary Learners (Years 1–6): Create a calm space, encourage thinking, avoid rushing in, praise their process—not just results.
  • For Limited Space/Supplies: Use trays, mats, or even safe floors; reuse notebooks and cardboard; use household items for counting and sorting.

❤️ Building Lifelong Habits
Homework isn’t just about getting it done—it’s about helping children:
✔️ Practice what they learn
✔️ Build responsibility and focus
✔️ Gain confidence and independence

And remember—the most powerful learning tool? Reading together daily!

📖 Just 20 minutes of reading each day can transform your child’s vocabulary, comprehension, imagination, and confidence.

💙 Our Commitment
We know that not every family has everything on these lists, and that’s okay. Use what you have. Be creative. And please reach out if you need help sourcing basic materials.

Your partnership means everything. Together, let’s help our children become lifelong learners who are happy, confident, and ready for the world.
